fun facts about me:
• I can do basic electrical wiring (at this point, probably not up to code)
• I've moved over 10 times before I was 18 years old, 16 total
• I play piano exclusively by ear and by memorizing those synthesia/midi covers on youtube

favorite birds

bearded vulture | "Gypaetus barbatus"
lifespan: 22 in the wild, 40 years in captivity
diet: 85-90% bone, some carrion meat
locations: Europe, Caucasus, Tibet, India
- They are one of the largest known birds of prey.
- They are monogamous, and tend to lay two eggs when they breed.
- Once very common in Southern Europe and the Balkans, they were hunted almost to extinction by superstitionists all over the continent in the 1900s because of the hysterical assertion that this bird would carry off sheep and children. (They don't eat live prey.)
- Adult bearded vultures have a white coat around their neck and chest, which they purposefully paint a rusty red by bathing in pools thick with iron deposits and rubbing it into themselves.

turkey vulture | "Cathartes aura"
lifespan: 16 in the wild, 45 in captivity
diet: carrion, occasionally plant matter, live insects.
location: Southern Canada to the southernmost tip of South America.
- They aren't turkeys, they just look like them.
- They forage by smell and can detect the odour of ethyl mercaptan, a gas created by the start of decay in dead animals. Other birds such as black vultures and condors will follow the turkey vulture to find carcasses because of this.
- They cannot sweat, so they pee on their own legs.

potoo bird | family "Nyctibiidae"
lifespan: potentially 12-14 years.
diet: flying insects (beetles, moths, grasshoppers and termites)
locations: Central & South America (excluding Chile).
- They camouflage perfectly with dead branches.
- They can see you even with their eyes closed.
- They lay a single egg in the top of broken branches, with no added materials.
- They sound like This. (please click)

magpie | "Pica pica"
lifespan: up to 30 years.
diet: omnivorous
locations: Europe, North America, Asia,
- Magpie numbers in Britain and Ireland have quadrupled in the last 35 years.
- Pica, the eating disorder, was coined from the latin name of this bird, referring to their ability to eat a wide range of things.
- Magpies have been observed engaging in elaborate social rituals, possibly including the expression of grief.
"One for sorrow, Two for joy, Three for a girl, Four for a boy, Five for silver, Six for gold, Seven for a secret never to be told. Eight for a wish, Nine for a kiss, Ten a surprise you should be careful not to miss, Eleven for health, Twelve for wealth, Thirteen beware it's the devil himself."
